TCS Expands Partnership with Rolls-Royce for Sustainable Aviation.

Farnborough | Mumbai, July 22, 2024: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has strengthened its partnership with Rolls-Royce, a British multinational, to advance research in sustainable aviation. This collaboration focuses on hydrogen fuel system technology, exploring hydrogen as a potential zero-carbon fuel for future aircraft.

TCS will provide engineering support to Rolls-Royce, tackling key challenges like fuel combustion, delivery, and integrating hydrogen fuel systems with aircraft engines. Ensuring these systems operate safely is crucial for hydrogen to be used in aviation.

This partnership reflects TCS’s broader commitment to using technology for sustainable solutions and positive societal impact. The International Air Transport Association (IATA) aims for net zero carbon emissions by 2050, making innovations like this essential.

Alan Newby, Rolls-Royce’s Director of Research and Technology, expressed excitement about TCS’s involvement, stating that their engineering expertise will help address key technology goals.

Announced at the Farnborough International Airshow, this partnership builds on the long-standing relationship between Rolls-Royce and the Tata Group. TCS has supported Rolls-Royce since 2010 in areas like design, manufacturing, and IT services, playing a crucial role in civil and business aviation programs.

Anupam Singhal, President of Manufacturing at TCS, emphasized that this collaboration is a significant step toward achieving a greener future in aviation. TCS will apply its industry knowledge to support Rolls-Royce in areas such as system design, component development, and supply chain management, focusing on safe hydrogen technology integration.

Regu Ayyaswamy, Senior Vice President at TCS, highlighted the importance of this partnership in addressing the aviation industry's need to reduce carbon emissions while maintaining performance.

TCS is committed to driving sustainability across industries, with over 200 offerings helping customers in their green efforts. As part of the Tata Group, TCS has also set ambitious sustainability goals, aiming to reduce emissions by 70% by 2025 and achieve net zero by 2030. By FY24, TCS had already reduced its carbon footprint by 80%, surpassing its target a year early.
